History of Red Hill

Back in 1887, when Brisbane was still small, young and growing, the Red Hill area was a part of the Shire of Ithaca. Ithaca became a township in 1903, but as Brisbane continued to grow, it enveloped and absorbed the town of Ithaca in 1925.

The Ithaca town council building became a public library, and operated for decades until it was closed in 1998.
