History of Deagon

Deagon is a suburb of Brisbane located 16kms North of the Brisbane suburb with plenty of outdoor space to enjoy. Cabbage Tree Creek winds along the Southern Border of the suburb, and on the Eastern border is Curlew Park. To the North is the wide Deagon Wetlands.

The area was originally the home of the Turrbal and Jagera peoples before British settlement began, and they used to camp along the creek.

Deagon is named after William Deagon, who was the mayor of Sandgate back when Sandgate was its own township. He was the mayor from 1882 to 1884. The Deagon Post Office opened decades later in 1947, next to the railway line.

Deagon is also home to a number of businesses. It is also home to residential homes and the Deagon Racecourse, which is used as a training facility since races ended in 1941.
