Planning
The initial planning stage is especially vital to childcare or early learning centre painting projects. We will sequence our work outside of operating hours to avoid disrupting the centre’s daily operations. Paint Selection
Surepaint uses a range of Australian-made and owned premium level paints, and for any commercial space with children (such as schools or childcare centres), we use low VOC coatings (VOC stands for Volatile Organic Compounds). Low VOC paints dry faster and produce less noxious fumes, which helps protect those with asthma or other sensitivities. We have a range of colours available to choose from and a variety of finishes for exterior and interior surfaces.
Painting
The painting stage itself is based on best practice guidelines and starts with preparing the work area, sanding, painting, finishing touches and cleaning up. We’ll make sure to pack down each day and ensure any equipment that needs to be kept on site is secure and out of reach of little fingers – we’re here to work with you around your centre’s needs.

Exterior painting involves:
- Pressure wash, scrape and sand to clean the area
- Gaps, cracks and holes filled in
- Spot prime
- Tape off windows and surfaces that aren’t getting painted
- Sealer coat
- First coat of exterior low VOC acrylic paint
- Sand and wipe
- Apply the second coat of exterior low VOC acrylic paint
- Finishing touches and tidy up
Our interior painting process sticks to this winning recipe:
- Sand the surfaces you want painted
- Fill in any dents, gaps and scratches
- Spot prime
- Apply anti-mould solution to bathroom and wet area walls and ceilings
- First coat of interior low VOC acrylic paint
- Second coat of interior low VOC acrylic paint
- Finishing details and tidy up
For any interior trims, our painting process is different again due to the different types of paints we use:
- Sand and fill in holes
- Apply an oil-based primer
- Apply first coat of water-based low VOC enamel
